Bill, Meet Me Where I Am
WordPress is the most popular blogging platform available today. Last year Pingdom looked at the top 100 blogs to see what blogging software they were running and WordPress was the overwhelming favorite with a 27% share. Popular blogs like Techcrunch, Mashable, Smashing Magazine and Freakonomics run on WordPress. Well known personal blogs also rely on WordPress including Chris Brogan, Darren Rowse of Problogger and J.D. Roth of Get Rich Slowly.
There are two versions, WordPress.com and WordPress.org. The exciting one that everyone talks about is WordPress.org, also known as “self hosted WordPress”. Wordpress.org is the one that allows you to host your own blog, customize it with themes and take it to the next level with plugins. We will be setting up the WordPress.org version.
Workshop Goal
This class will remain free at FreshWorkshops as a way to give back to the WordPress community. I’ve done a similar install training for Joomla seven times since 2009. When I installed my first blog in 2008 and setup my first “real” blog in 2008, I had no idea it would change my life for the better. Open Source is about giving back.
